Police are hunting for a BMW driver who hit a man and left him lying unconscious on a busy road.

Merseyside Police were called to Lord Street in Southport between 2pm and 3pm on Friday, September 22, following reports of a man being hit by a car. Once officers arrived at the scene, close to Barclays Bank, they found a man in his 40s had been hit by a white BMW.

The man suffered a broken leg and was left unconscious after the crash. The driver of the BMW didn't stop at the scene.

Officers are continuing to investigate this incident to locate the vehicle and driver.

Inspector Emma Haffenden said: “To leave the scene of a collision is a serious crime, and we’re keen to trace the driver and the white BMW involved to assist our enquiries. The man who was involved in the collision was reported to have been crossing the road when this incident occurred, therefore we are appealing to anyone who saw this or the car involved to please contact us.

“If you were driving through Lord Street and have any CCTV or dashcam footage from the afternoon of Friday 22 September, please send this or any information to us so we can take action.”
