A Coronation Street star's famous dad has issued a "powerful and heartbreaking" update on social media.

The arrival of the ITV soap's new bad boy Mason Radcliffe has spelled trouble for Gary and Maria Windass and Maria's son Liam. The 16-year-old has been bullying Liam, who is younger, in recent episodes.

Wednesday's episode saw Mason, played by Luca Toolan, steal Dylan Wilson's shoes and planted them in Liam's locker, with Mason then holding poor Liam at knifepoint.

Craig Tinker performed a stop and search on Mason, but he had already stashed the knife. The episode wound to a close with Liam crying himself to sleep after being called a "rat" by Mason.

Away from the cameras, Luca's dad - Hits Radio broadcaster Mike Toolan, who presents alongside former Corrie star Brooke Vincent and Gemma Atkinson - took to X, formerly Twitter, to clarify things. He shared some behind the scenes photos of Luca with Dylan and Liam actors Liam McCheyne and Charlie Wrenshall.

Mike said: "They’re great friends really! Amazing storyline on @itvcorrie . Powerful and heartbreaking scenes. And an important topic - Bullies never win. If I didn’t know, he was an amazing lad in real life I would box @LucaToolan ears.

"Great acting all round @LiamMccheyne & Charlie Wrenshall".

Many of Mike's followers have commended Luca as Jeanette said: "He’s doing a great job x" and Jill said: "Brilliant young actors". Paul said: "He’s playing a blinder. Wasn’t sure of this storyline at first, but it’s being told very well, and is very convincing. Very well acted!! X".
