Christmas has officially landed on Church Street as the city's huge tree was illuminated.

Liverpool’s Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Richard Kemp, officially switched on the tree at 4.35pm on Thursday, November 23, in front of watching crowds. Ahead of the celebration, the Liverpool Rock Choir sang a number of songs for the occasion, including Sweet Child of Mine by Guns n' Roses.

People clapped and cheered as the tree's 14,000 LED lights were switched on and festivities continued. The Rector of Liverpool, Crispin Pailing, officially blessed the nativity at the base of the tree.

Today's event was the first official Christmas light switch-on in Liverpool that was carried out this year, as Liverpool ONE has moved away from similar events in recent years.

Throughout the event, there were charitable collections for the Lord Mayor’s 2023/24 charity Local Solutions. Here are some pictures out ECHO photographer, Colin Lane, took of the festive event.
