Forgotten moments from the 1970s have been captured in rare images from inside a lost Woolworths shop on Merseyside.
For years, Woolworths was one of the nation's favourite shops, boasting over 800 stores in the UK. Woolworths was a US company, the F.W Woolworth Company, that sent a small team to the UK in order to expand its operation overseas.
And it was on Church Street in Liverpool that the first UK branch opened on November 5, 1909. So loved by local shoppers in the city, it was also known by the nickname 'Woolies' and is best remembered for its 'pic n mix' selection and a stationery section adored by kids.

The retail giant was also the place to get the latest single releases, Ladybird clothes for schools and more. Many will remember branches across the region, like St John's Shopping Centre and Bootle Strand.
But sadly the Woolworths dream died in 2009 when the company entered administration in the UK. Today, it is still fondly missed on our high streets.
These images, courtesy of Liverpool Central Library and Archives, offer a glimpse into Woolworths' past. Taken inside the Bootle branch in 1978, you can see what the shop looked like at that moment in time.
One image captures the book section. Whereas another shows more customers browsing the makeup counter.

The ECHO previously reported how Woolworths opened in Bootle in 1930 on Stanley Road. Then 35 years later, the shops on one side of Stanley Road were to be demolished to make way for a new shopping centre.
In October 1968 the New Strand Shopping Precinct was opened, and Woolworths had a new larger store inside. The store closed in December 2008 and is now a B&M.
