There's nothing like a peaceful beach walk, and I think I've found the best place for true tranquillity.

I'm always telling people how good the Wirral is for walks, simply because there's so much choice. Whether it's vast beaches or woodland, the area isn't short of spots that offer a great dog walk.

In terms of beaches on the Wirral in general, Thurstaston beach and New Brighton beach are notable mentions, but I recently visited Hoylake beach which may just snap up the top spot. The picturesque beach is known for its beautiful sandy shore, amazing sunsets and panoramic views of the Welsh coastline in the distance.

After a busy day, I was feeling a little stressed, so I thought I'd go on a dog walk to get some fresh air and let off some steam. Usually if I visit a beach like New Brighton after work it's usually pretty busy, but I decided to try out Hoylake Beach, a spot I'd never been to before.

The first thing I noticed were the deep red rocks tightly packed together to create a dramatic formation. The 'Red Rocks (SSSI)' is an area of sand dunes and reed beds at the mouth of the Dee Estuary, they add magnificent colour to the beach, and are a really unique feature that I've never really seen before anywhere else.

Next, was the sound. All I could hear was the tiny chirping of birds on the beach, and everything else was completely quiet. There were a few couples sat on the rocks soaking up the scenery, with some even opting for a cute picnic or a hot drink.

When I visited, the tide was way out, but that made it an absolutely amazing dog walk. My dog Penny zoomed across the beach like no tomorrow, and the best part? It pretty much felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves.

As the golden sun slowly went down, there were a few other dog walkers making the most of the peace and quiet. At one point, I glanced over and saw a lady sat on the rocks with her eyes shut, basking in the warm sun against her face.

If that doesn't suggest how relaxing this beach is, then I don't know what will! The sand beneath my feet and the tiny glimpse of Hilbre Island made this walk feel really special, despite it just being in my dog's eyes, another 'walkies'.

Whatever the weather, I'd definitely recommend taking a trip to Hoylake Beach if you haven't already. I visited at around 6pm and it was so quiet and peaceful.

I'm not sure if it was luck, or the fact that this place is genuinely a hidden gem. But, one thing is for sure, I'll definitely be visiting again as the weather gets a little chillier.

There's certain walks that often stick in my mind that I never forget, and this is definitely one of them.
