Liverpool has been hit with heavy traffic and congestion this afternoon.

Queues are extending down the roads around Lime Street Station and other parts of the city centre, with disruption to bus services also reported due to the heavy traffic.

Bus company Arriva has terminated or cancelled some services due to congestion in the city, with the 10A now terminating at Queens Square.

Seven Arriva bus services disrupted due to congestion

Multiple Arriva services will terminate and commence at London Road until further notice due to the congestion.

Merseytravel said: "Due to congestion in the City Centre, all Arriva 8, 9, 10B, 12, 13, 14, 15 services will terminate and commence at London road until further notice."

Traffic could be down to Christmas market, shoppers and theatre shows among other reasons

Today we have seen the opening of the Liverpool Christmas market, bringing in people from all over the region. That, as well as early festive shopping and the popular Charlie and the Chocolate Factory currently at the Liverpool Empire could be contributing to the huge amount of drivers and people in the city centre today.

Arriva bus change

Arriva have confirmed a change to the 10A bus due to congestion

In a statement posted earlier afternoon the bus company said: "Due to congestion in Liverpool Service 10A will terminate at Queens Square and start from Queens Square to St Helens."
