The M57 has been closed due to a crash.

Merseyside Police said there is a "temporary full road closure" at the end of the M57/Switch Island due to a crash. According to traffic management system Inrix there is "stop-start traffic".

Travel time is reportedly around 45 minutes. One eyewitness said a car "overturned" near the turn off for Aintree Racecourse. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Please be aware that there is a temporary full road closure at the end of the M57/Switch Island due to a Road Traffic Collision. Please seek an alternative route."

Traffic returns to normal on the A59

Traffic has now retuned to normal on the A59 near Aintree.

M57/Switch Island now reopen

Lanes reopened but traffic slow

Slow traffic due to earlier overturned vehicle on A59 Southbound at M57/A59 Ormskirk Road.

All lanes have been re-opened.

Heavy traffic

Traffic returning to normal on the M57 near junction 7, however heavy traffic on the A59 near Aintree.

An eyewitness said he was stuck in traffic for around 40 minutes and added the crash happened near Asda.

Overturned vehicle

The A59 southbound near Aintree is also partially blocked and there is heavy traffic.


This is reportedly due to an overturned vehicle at the M57/A59 Ormskirk Road.

Travel time 50 minutes

There are currently long delays with travel time around 50 minutes currently.

'Stop-start traffic'

Traffic management system Inrix stated there is "stop-start traffic" on the M57 northbound at junction 7.
