The M58 was closed following multiple crashes.
All traffic was held on the M58 westbound from junction 3 Rainford Road (Bickerstaffe) to junction 1 Maghull Lane (Kirkby) due to a crash. It is understood the incident happened at around 10.10am today, Friday, November 17.

All lanes reopen
All lanes have reopened, however National Highways said there still around one mile of congestion.
'No serious injuries'
North West Motorway Police said there were "no serious injuries" following the crash.
Cars crash into back of ambulance
North West Motorway Police said following the first crash, two other vehicles then crashed into the rear of an ambulance.
Car leaves carriageway
North West Motorway Police confirmed one car left the M58 westbound carriageway.
A picture shared by the force showed a Toyota Yaris on an embankment.
Long delays
National Highways is reporting the incident is due to clear at around 12.15pm.
M58 'blocked'
Drivers travelling on the motorway heading towards Liverpool said it is "blocked".
Emergency services at the scene
Emergency services including North West Motorway Police Group are in attendance.
National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.
Diversion details
These are the diversions currently is place:
- Leave the M58 at J3 and at the roundabout, take the third exit onto the A570.
- At the next roundabout, continue on the A570 headed westbound and follow for approx. 3 miles towards Ormskirk.
- At the A570/B5319 junction, take the B5319 headed southbound.
- At the following roundabout, take the A59 and continue for approx. 5.5 miles.
- Re-join your route at A59/M57 J7 (Switch Island).
All three lanes closed
All three lanes are closed, according to National Highways.
It added the incident is expected to clear between 11.30am and 11.45am.
