A man has been arrested after an assault in Southport.

Police were called to Lord Street today after reports a man had been assaulted in a flat. People in the area reported seeing several police cars on the road as officers stood in the street.

Officers responding to the incident arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of assault and the victim received a head injury which did not need to be treated.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "At around 9.30am we received a report that a man had been assaulted in a flat on Lord Street, Southport. Officers attended and a 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. The victim sustained a minor injury which did not require medical treatment."
