Oasis frontman and Manchester City fan Noel Gallagher's past comments about Liverpool have resurfaced ahead of the two clubs' next meeting on Saturday.

The Reds travel to East Manchester in the first match of the Premier League's return from international action this weekend, hoping to leapfrog their opponents to the top of the table.

This is just the next in a recent line of hotly-contested fixtures that have in some cases have gone on to decide the title. In the 2018/19 and 2021/22 campaigns, the Cityzens claimed the Premier League by one point, whilst the Reds stormed to their first triumph in 30 years back in 2020.

But reflecting on this modern rivalry, Gallagher took aim at Liverpool's most recent title win and their attitude to facing City.

The award-winning musician told talkSPORT: "Liverpool for all their fans crowing, they’ve been the best team in England once in 30 years. That lot, they’re terrible winners but worse losers."

Well, there is no telling whether the Mancunian will be witnessing the 'terrible' or 'worse' side of the Reds come full-time on Saturday.

It is an equal split of results across the last 11 head-to-heads - four in favour of Jurgen Klopp's men, four for Pep Guardiola's and three stalemates.

Though Liverpool are yet to win at the Etihad Stadium since 2018, and suffered an off-year last season as Arsenal assumed the position of closest challengers. Now at least it appears this new-look, 'Liverpool 2.0' are on their way back and have their biggest test yet against City.

Gallagher also recognised the gulf in historic achievements between the two clubs when speaking about Liverpool - particularly in continental competition.

He may have witnessed his team lift the Champions League for the first time last season, but admitted: "Now we’ve got to emulate them in Europe somehow and I think we’re getting closer."
