These fascinating photos of one popular city centre street will transport you back in time to when life in the area looked very different for a generation.

One of the oldest streets in the city centre, Castle Street has retained much of its beautiful architecture and still welcomes thousands of pedestrians week on week. Today, it is home to many independents, chains and restaurants, from Castle Street Townhouse to Rudy's, McGuffie & Co, BoBo and more.

But through the years, we've seen a number of businesses change, from shops and retailers to traders. And while a lot has changed, a lot of things are still instantly recognisable on Castle Street.
