Wade Deacon High School has consistently maintained its Outstanding Ofsted status for a reason. It goes beyond the exceptional teaching and learning that takes place within its walls.

While the school certainly sets high standards with its aspirational curriculum, designed to push each student to their fullest potential, it also recognizes the importance of looking at the bigger picture. This includes providing robust pastoral care and offering unique social experiences.

Many aspects of what occurs outside the classroom can be likened to a comforting blanket, providing students with a sense of safety, security, and nurture. From the presence of a therapy dog to the availability of various clubs and beautifully appointed learning spaces, the school takes great pride in ensuring that students feel supported and cared for.

Moreover, Wade Deacon High School is committed to extending its provision beyond the confines of the school grounds and into the wider community. It offers a diverse range of experiences and events that are consistently well-supported.

One such upcoming event is the highly anticipated Christmas Fayre, scheduled for December 2 from 9.30am until 2.30pm. This festive occasion presents an opportunity to meet Father Christmas and even feed the reindeer! Additionally, attendees can explore a wide array of stalls operated by local businesses.

Wade Deacon High School's dedication to providing an exceptional education extends far beyond the classroom. By prioritizing the holistic development of its students and developing strong community ties, the school ensures that each individual thrives in a supportive and enriching environment.

One of the key factors is its extensive range of extra-curricular activities. The school's recent OFSTED report highlighted the impressive variety of opportunities available to students, stating: "Pupils engage in a wide range of activities that enhance their personal development."

The extra-curricular clubs at Wade Deacon have proven to be a thriving hub for students. From dance and creative writing to robotics and electronics, there is something for everyone. The school takes great pride in the diversity of its clubs, even going so far as to create new ones based on student requests. Chess, Dungeons and Dragons, and comic club are just a few examples of the unique offerings.

In addition to these clubs, Wade Deacon has partnered with a local high school to host regular chess competitions in the school library. The introduction of a board game library has also been a resounding success, allowing students to borrow games and enjoy them during lunchtime.

These clubs and activities have not only been successful in promoting inclusivity and participation across different age groups but have also provided a platform for students to engage in teamwork and collaboration.

For those seeking a more active break time, the school offers an outdoor multi-use games area where football and basketball are particularly popular.

In addition to the clubs, Wade Deacon places a strong emphasis on STEM activities. Students have the opportunity to participate in various challenges and workshops, including the Girls into Maths initiative, the First Lego League regional competition, a regional maths competition, the RAF engineering award, and the STARR (Summer Time Advanced Aerospace Residency) program.

These initiatives not only provide an exciting avenue for students to showcase their skills but also kindle a passion for STEM subjects and encourage them to explore future career paths.

It is widely acknowledged that spending time with animals can have a profound positive impact on our emotional well-being. Wade Deacon are fortunate to have Buddy, a remarkable therapy dog who plays a pivotal role in supporting children with their emotional well-being, focus, and social skills.

According to Ms. Madahar, Buddy has made an exceptional difference in her lessons.

"He has truly elevated my teaching, particularly with students in my cohort who can sometimes struggle. The students respond remarkably well to him," she shared.

Moreover, Buddy's presence has facilitated the acquisition of essential skills among the students, such as caring for and supporting him.

Ms. Madahar continued: “Every time he strolls past my classroom, both my students and I cannot help but smile, as his mere presence brings joy and positivity.”

Students themselves attest to the transformative impact Buddy has on their overall well-being. He creates an atmosphere of happiness and safety, providing solace to those who may be feeling down or struggling with their mental health. Remarkably, Buddy has even succeeded in supporting reluctant students to engage with school.

Buddy's contribution to the educational environment cannot be overstated. His presence not only enhances the learning experience but also initiates a sense of compassion and empathy among students. Staff and students are truly grateful to have Buddy as an invaluable member of their school community.

Geography students had an unforgettable experience during their trip to Iceland, where they witnessed volcanoes and other natural wonders. Closer to home, they also had the chance to observe Geography in action during their visit to Wales, where they studied the River Clywedog.

The vibrant theatres of London are a regular highlight on our arts calendar. Students have the privilege of watching extraordinary shows, engaging in actor-led workshops, and fully immersing themselves in the world of live performances.

Art students have had the privilege of visiting some of the capital's most renowned galleries, including the Saatchi Gallery, Tate Modern, and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Additionally, they have enjoyed guided tours of the area, where they were exposed to an eclectic mix of inspirational street art.

These excursions go beyond the classroom, providing students with unique and enriching experiences that broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of the world.

Excellence beyond the curriculum

At Wade Deacon High School, students consistently engage in a wide range of competitions, spanning from Debate Mate and cheerleading to STEM and a wide plethora of sports.

These endeavours have not only resulted in numerous accolades for our students, but have also fostered invaluable qualities such as resilience, confidence, and teamwork.

It is a remarkable achievement for any school to be awarded an 'Outstanding' rating in all areas by Ofsted, and Wade Deacon High School stands proudly among the select few state schools in England that have maintained this prestigious grade.

One of the key factors contributing to Wade Deacon's outstanding status is the cultivation of a positive and aspirational culture, which is actively promoted by staff and wholeheartedly embraced by students.

This culture has garnered recognition for the school, as evidenced by a recent nomination as a finalist for Secondary School of the Year 2023 at the esteemed TES Awards. Additionally, Principal Simon Corner has been shortlisted for the prestigious Headteacher of the Year award.

Then school takes immense pride in the accomplishments of faculty members as well. Art teacher, Mr Tutty, has been nominated and shortlisted in the WOW recognition category at the Educate Awards.

This recognition is a testament to his exceptional efforts in organizing a truly special wrestling event in collaboration with the Paramount Wrestling Club. The event was specifically designed to fulfil the dreams of a Year 9 student with Cerebral Palsy, who has a deep passion for the sport.

Notably, the proceeds from this event were utilized to support the school's food bank, further exemplifying a commitment to community service. The winner of the WOW category at the Educate Awards will be announced in November, and we eagerly await the results.

At Wade Deacon High School, staff strive for excellence in all aspects of education and beyond. The commitment to fostering a supportive and ambitious environment sets the school apart, and the staff are honoured to be recognized for their achievements
