Ravers will be excited to discover that two legends of the northern nightlife scene will be holding an event next month in Liverpool.
Wigan Pier is coming to the newly reopened 051 nightclub on Saturday December 2, for one night and one night only. The two celebrated and historic dance clubs will collaborate to re-ignite memories of days gone by, at the fabled Liverpool venue, in an event dubbed 'Wigan Pier versus ofiveone'. The night will feature DJs from both clubs and their impressive histories.
The Wigan Pier nightspot was extremely popular, predominantly featuring music of the 'Scouse House/Bounce' genre. Opening in the late 80s, and remaining a huge spot for dance music enthusiasts, it sadly closed in 2011. However, the club's alumni continue to put on events in Wigan Pier's name and many still have fond memories of its heyday.

Around the same time that Wigan Pier was busy creating incredible parties in its town, another club, in Liverpool - the 051, was bursting on the city's nightlife scene. Relying on resident DJs such as Lee Butler and Dave Graham, the venue was known for its great music and family feel, gathering a cult following over the years.
The 051 closed in 2005 but was brought back to life earlier this year by Lee Butler and his business partner Steve Cocky, delighting their almost fanatical fans.
Ben Trengove, DJ and producer from Wigan Pier told the ECHO: "We've been working with Lee and Steve for about 20 years now. They used to come to the pier and we used to go to the 051.
"Although we were both two colossal clubs at the time, there wasn't any need for rivalry, as we each had our own loyal fan bases. When I first went to the 051 it was strange seeing everyone smartly dressed because in Wigan there was no dress code, but we all danced to the same music."
The 47-year-old, who performs a Wigan Pier set at Reminisce Festival in Merseyside every year, continued: "People who came to the clubs still talk about them all these years later, and now their kids have grown up listening to their music, bringing us a younger crowd along with our loyal older fans."
When Lee said he wanted to revive the 051, Ben thought "no chance". He said: "It was derelict, but he's done it and now here we are. Its going to be a historic event, and who knows if it will ever happen again? The night will be absolutely fantastic."
At the exciting collaboration, fans are told to expect back to back anthems from the late 90s to the mid 2000s with "a fantastic atmosphere guaranteed".
