A woman has issued a warning to others after discovering the terrifying truth over why her bedroom smelt like fish.
Claudia Anderson, 26, explained that her bedroom had developed a fish odour that hung around "for weeks" despite deep cleaning.
At first, Claudia and her husband were just "a bit embarrassed" by the smell but over time, they became determined to discover why the smell had developed. Posting on TikTok, under the username Mrsclaudiaanderson, she explained: "Here's something I didn't know about a potential electrical fire hazard until it happened to me.

"Now, for a few weeks, me and my husband were walking into our bedroom and thinking, 'oh my God, it stinks of fish in our bedroom'. We didn't want to tell anyone about it because you're a bit embarrassed."
Claudia went on to add that she and her husband initially assumed the smell was coming from their en-suite bathroom and completed a deep clean to try and banish the odour. She said: "So we took out the U bend from the sink, made sure the toilet was super clean, cleaned the plug hole in the shower… everything.
"But the smell still lingered". While cleaning failed to get rid of it, Claudia soon Googled what could be the cause and was stunned to find out that it may actually be related to a dangerous electrical problem.
Claudia said: "I literally would never, ever have guessed that that is what that is...ever. So I messaged my brother-in-law who's an electrician, and he said, 'yeah, that's probably something you should get checked out.'
"So I called my father-in-law, who also used to be an electrician, and he came around this morning and had a look". The camera then shows Claudia pointing at the fuse box as she adds: "This is attached to our en-suite and there's our bedroom.
"So every time we walked in here, we were like, 'this smells like fish,' but it's actually this. There was a wire that had become disconnected, and I don't know if you can see but it was actually melting the plastic on the inside of the socket. Look at that. That is terrifying! We were so, so lucky that we caught it before that burst into flames."
The TikTok ended with Claudia warning people not to ignore fishy odours in their homes and to call an electrician as soon as possible if they start to smell it. Her followers rushed to the comments section to explain they had had similar experiences.
Libby said: "This happened to me I kept smelling it in the kitchen eventually noticed my electric box sparking terrifying I needed a whole new electric box". Connor Killick commented: "I had this, bought an 80s house where nothing had been changed and someone had drilled through cables in the walls cooker cable in the kitchen, scary."
Louise wrote: "Lucky you!!! I’ve made a mental note of fishy might mean electrical, so thanks for that". SINEAD added: "Thanks for this, at least the cable was easy to get at."
